Cross Country in December!

03 Dec 2019

On Tues 3rd Dec, Miss Otterstead and Miss Williams took 10 Y5 and 10 Y6 children to participate in the Torfaen Junior Cross Country Championships in Ponty pool Park. The children were an absolute credit to the school. Their behaviour was outstanding and their positive attitudes and good sportsmanship towards others was nothing short of superb. The children ran their hearts out and all completed the challenging route! We now await the final results which should be with us by next week! Congratulations and well done to you all!

Ceremony officially opens Penygarn Community Primary School

01 May 2019

We recently had a visit from the Welsh Government’s Minister for Education Kirsty Williams AM, who officially opened our refurbished and extended School. The school choir sang for the Minister and she spent lots of time speaking to pupils who were all absolutely brilliant throughout her tour. The £4m project has transformed classrooms and the overall condition of our school and resulted in community facilities being relocated into the extended Flying Start building on the school site. Some of the work here at Penygarn included: Reconfiguration, refurbishment and extension of Junior block including new classrooms, kitchen, hall, courtyard, toilets, library/IT, medical room, meeting room, community space, admin office, forest school room. New LED interactive teaching screens throughout the school. New Community facilities in an extended Flying Start building. New insulation, heating and security systems. New flexible teaching spaces

Eco Warrior Success

12 Apr 2019

As part of our Eco Schools Programme, we have created an action plan. We want to reduce litter and waste at Penygarn and encourage wildlife by planting flowers, building homes for animals and making bird feeders. We meet each week to discuss ideas, check our progress and take part in different eco activities. We’ve enjoyed planting vegetables in our garden and are looking forward to trying some in the summer. We’ve also helped to organise our first Penygarn Spring Clean litter pick in the community. We would like everyone to help us to keep Penygarn tidy by not dropping litter and by putting it in the nearest bin. Recently, we were awarded our Platinum flag renewal. The assessor was very impressed with our ideas and enthusiasm. Keep posted for more Eco news next term!

Dance Workshops and Competition

12 Mar 2019

We had a fabulous day at the Torfaen Primary School Dance Competition this week. Our children all enjoyed the workshops organised and joined in with Hip Hop, contemporary dance and ballet. Most of our children hadn't tried contemporary or ballet previously so it was a great experience for them to try new styles. In facet, some of them enjoyed the contemporary dance more than their usual dance style of Hip Hop. Our solo performer, Dylan, wowed the judges and came second in the solo dance performance making us all exceptionally proud. All the children really enjoyed watching other dancers from different schools, and the different range of dance styles being performed. Well done to all who took part and a big thank you to Torfaen Sport's Development for the invitation. We are looking forward to our next dance performance in May!
