Remembrance Sunday

12 Nov 2018

Forty of our lovely pupils took part in the Remembrance Service yesterday in Pontypool town through various clubs and organisations such as Boys Brigade, Girl Guides, Brownies, St John's Ambulance, Scouts and Cubs. We have had some fabulous feedback that our children represented these organisations exceptionally well. In fact, the term used was 'amazing'! Well done to everyone who took part, once again you have done us proud!

We recently applied to Pontypool Community Council for an Environmental Grant to fund a new parent, grandparent and pupil gardening project to improve our gardening area, grow herbs and vegetables for the community to enjoy. We are pleased to announce that we were awarded the full amount applied for which will allow us to start a gardening club here at Penygarn Community Primary School. A huge thank you goes out to Pontypool Community Council for helping us!

Year 6 WWII Production

26 Sep 2018

Our Year 6’s had an amazing time watching the WWII production. They learnt all about what it was like living in this time. Children were involved in acting out what happened when the air raid siren warned people to take shelter. They also learnt that butter, sugar, milk, cheese and many other foods needed to be rationed. It was a difficult time for those children who were evacuated from the cities to the countryside for their safety. Many having to leave their families behind and not return for months or even a year. They were able to visualise different aspects of WWII life and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We have added lots of lovely photos to the gallery section of the website, please take a look.

18 Jun 2018

On Wednesday 13th June, Penygarn school football team traveled to Cwmbran Stadium as they were involved in The Newport County Cup. Fourteen teams were entered and split into two groups of seven with the top four teams in each group progressing to the knockout stages. After four emphatic wins and two losses Penygarn progressed to the next round after finishing second in the group. In the quarter finals we met Padre Pio. The game ended nil-nil and went to penalties, unfortunately Penygarn were knocked out. It was a great run by the team who played excellent football throughout. Great progress has been made by the team who have reached the knockout stages of the previous two tournaments, and reaching the semi-finals of the Gwent Police cup. We will look forward to the next tournament and hopefully progressing further.
